Introduction:

The traditional automobile wheel bearings are composed of two sets of tapered roller bearings or ball bearings. The installation, oiling, sealing and clearance adjustment of bearings are all carried out in the automobile production line. This structure makes it difficult to assemble in automobile production plants, high cost, poor reliability, and the car in the maintenance point maintenance, but also need to clean, oiling and adjustment bearings.
Wheel hub bearing unit is in the standard angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings, on the basis of it will be two sets of bearing as a whole, has the assembly clearance adjustment performance is good, can be omitted, light weight, compact structure, large load capacity, for the sealed bearing prior to loading, ellipsis external wheel grease seal and from maintenance etc, and has been widely used in cars, In the heavy truck also has the trend of gradually expanding the application.

Development history:

Car hub bearings in the past most used in pairs of single row tapered roller or ball bearings. With the development of technology, cars have been widely used in car hub units. The scope of use and use of hub bearing units is increasing, and it has been developed to the third generation: the first generation is composed of double row angular contact bearings.
The second generation has a flange for fixing the bearing in the outer raceway. The bearing can be simply bussed to the wheel shaft and fixed with a nut. It makes the maintenance of the car easier. The third generation hub bearing unit adopts the bearing unit and anti-lock brake system ABS. The hub unit is designed with an inner flange bolted to the drive shaft and an outer flange that holds the entire bearing together.

Note:

Hub bearings worn or damaged hub bearings or hub units will make your vehicle in the road of driving inappropriate and costly failure, or even harm your safety. Please pay attention to the following items in the use and installation of hub bearings:

  • To ensure maximum safety and reliability, it is recommended that you check hub bearings regularly regardless of the age of the vehicle -- watch for early warning signs of bearing wear, including any friction noise during rotation or abnormal deceleration of the suspension combination wheels during turns.
For rear-wheel drive vehicles it is recommended that the front hub bearings be lubricated when the vehicle travels to 38000 km. When replacing the brake system, check the bearing and replace the oil seal.
  • If you hear the noise from the hub bearing part, first of all, it is important to find the location of the noise. There are many moving parts that may produce noise, and some rotating parts may be in contact with non-rotating parts. If it is confirmed to be noise in the bearing, the bearing may be damaged and needs to be replaced.
  • Because the working conditions of bearing failure on both sides caused by the front hub are similar, it is also recommended to replace in pairs even if only one bearing is damaged.
  • hub bearings are more sensitive, in any case need to use the right method and appropriate tools. In the process of storage, transportation and installation, the parts of bearings should not be damaged. Some bearings require greater pressure, so special tools are needed. Be sure to refer to the car manufacturing instructions.
  • When installing bearings, they should be installed in a clean and tidy environment. Small particles entering bearings will also shorten the service life of bearings. It is very important to keep a clean environment when replacing bearings.
It is not allowed to knock the bearing with a hammer, and pay attention to the bearing not falling to the ground (or similar improper handling).
Before installation, the condition of the shaft and bearing seat should also be checked. Even tiny wear will lead to poor fit, resulting in early failure of the bearing.
  • For the hub bearing unit, do not attempt to disassemble the hub bearing or adjust the seal ring of the hub unit, otherwise it will damage the seal ring and lead to the entry of water or dust. Even the raceways of the sealing ring and inner ring are damaged, resulting in permanent bearing failure.
  • There is a magnetic thrust ring in the seal ring of the bearing of the ABS device. This thrust ring can not be impacted, impacted or collided with other magnetic fields.
Remove them from the box before installation and keep them away from magnetic fields such as motors or power tools in use. When installing these bearings, the operation of the bearings is changed by observing the ABS alarm needle on the instrument panel through a road test.
  • Hub bearing equipped with ABS magnetic thrust ring, in order to determine which side of the thrust ring is installed, you can use a light and small thing near the edge of the bearing, and the magnetic force generated by the bearing will attract it.
Install with one side of the magnetic thrust ring pointing inwardly towards the ABS sensor. Note: Improper installation may cause the brake system to fail to function.
  • Many bearings are sealed, and this kind of bearing does not need to add grease throughout its life. Other non-sealed bearings such as double row tapered roller bearings must be lubricated with grease during installation. Because of the different size of the inner cavity of the bearing, it is difficult to determine how much oil to add.
The most important thing is to ensure that there is oil in the bearing. If the oil is too much, when the bearing rotates, the excess oil will ooze out. General experience: during installation, the total amount of grease should account for 50% of the clearance of bearings.
  • The size of torque varies greatly when installing the lock nut due to the different bearing type and bearing seat. Refer to the instructions.

Maintenance:

Hub bearing how to repair and maintenance, hub bearing is an important part of the car. Hub bearing is responsible for reducing the friction resistance of the chassis and maintaining the normal running of the car.
If the hub bearing fails, it may cause noise, bearing heating and other phenomena, especially the front wheel is more obvious, which is easy to lead to dangerous phenomena such as direction control. Therefore, hub bearings must be maintained on schedule.
Check hub bearing
(1) check the tightness of the hub bearing, first of all, the axle of the wheel at one end of the wheel hub of the car under inspection is set up, and the car is safely set up with a stool, masking wood and other tools.
(2) rotate the inspected wheel several times by hand to see whether the rotation is smooth and whether there is abnormal noise. If the rotation is not smooth and there is friction sound, the braking part is not normal; If there is no noise, rotation is not smooth and tight, indicating that the bearing part is not normal. The wheel hub should be removed when the above abnormal phenomenon occurs. For small cars, check the hub bearing, hold the upper and lower sides of the tire with both hands, pull the tire back and forth with both hands, repeat many times. If normal, there should be no loose and blocked feeling; If the swing is obviously loose, the wheel should be removed and checked.
(3) Brake inspection. Usually when checking the hub bearing, attached to check the wheel brake device, if there is oil mark inside the tire, it is likely to be caused by the brake sub-pump or brake tubing oil leakage, should be found out in time, to be excluded.
Maintenance of hub bearings
Before disassembling the wheel hub, prepare for the maintenance of the wheel hub, stop the car and set up the bridge to ensure the safety of the maintenance operation.
(1) Remove the decorative cover and dust cover of the hub shaft head;
(2) Remove the tire nut and tire, and be careful not to hurt the thread of the tire bolt. If disc brake is used, the brake should be removed and then used for pliers to remove the lock ring or lock pin.
(3) remove the wheel hub with special tools;
(4) Scrape off the old grease in the bearing, journal and hub cavity, clean the hub bearing and journal with cleaning agent and wipe dry with a cloth, and finally wipe the hub cavity with a cloth.
(5) Check the hub bearing and bearing seat ring, find cracks, fatigue peeling and loose bearing roller, bearing should be replaced. If pitting is found on the bearing seat ring, the bearing should also be replaced.
(6) Check the fit between bearing inner diameter and journal, and the fit clearance should not be greater than 0.1. When Omm measures the journal, it should be measured at the upper and lower parts of the vertical ground (where the biggest wear part is).
If the fit clearance exceeds the specified limit of use, the bearing should be replaced to restore the normal fit clearance. Burrs and pitting on the journal to narrow the gap are not allowed.
(7) After all parts meet the requirements, grease the inner bearing and put it into the hub.
(8) When grease is applied to the bearing cavity, attention should be paid to squeezing the grease into the bearing until the grease comes out from the other side of the bearing.
Apply a thin layer of grease in the hub cavity and shaft cover to prevent rust. Note that the grease in the hub cavity should not be smeared too much, otherwise it will affect heat dissipation and braking.
(9) Install the hub and external bearing back to the journal, screw the shaft head adjustment nut by hand, and then tighten the adjustment nut according to the specified torque with the shaft head wrench.
After tightening the nut, turn the wheel hub around several times to see the bearing installation; On the other hand, the bearing and the seat ring are matched correctly through rotation. At this time, the bearing tightness is appropriate, and the wheel rotates freely without feeling the axial clearance.
(10) Finally install the lock piece, fixed nut, tire, dust cover and decorative cover and other parts in turn.
(11) After adjusting the hub bearing, drive for a distance (1Okm or so), stop and check to wipe the temperature of the hub. If the temperature is hot, it is caused by too tight adjustment of the bearing. It should be readjust and properly relax the tightness of the bearing.
Cause of abnormal damage of hub bearing
In the process of maintenance, it is often found that some cars have a large driving noise, check the tire without abnormal wear, and turn the wheel on the lifting machine without obvious abnormal sound.
This phenomenon is often caused by the abnormal damage of hub bearings, the so-called abnormal refers to the bearing damage caused by installation reasons.
Car front wheel bearings are generally double row ball bearings. When installing bearings, if you use a hammer to install them, or install them by pressing the inner ring of bearings when installing them into the bearing seat, it will cause damage to one side of the bearing raceway.
Noise is generated when the vehicle is moving, and when the wheel is off the ground, there is a better side of the raceway, so no obvious noise can be heard. Correct installation operation is the key to the long life of bearings.
Hub bearing unit with ABS sensor
As more and more cars are equipped with ABS, the function of ABS is becoming stronger and stronger. A hub bearing unit integrated with ABS pulse generator was developed to solve the problems of cost, installation and signal quality of the wheel speed sensor which provides the wheel speed signal to ABS.
The hub bearing unit with ABS sensor mainly includes flange, gear ring rotating body, sealing assembly and hub. The ABS sensor is arranged on the hub, and the magnetic steel in the ABS sensor is set on the gear ring rotating body, and matched with it; The gear ring rotating body is fixedly connected with the flange.
ABS sensor mainly includes shell, magnetic steel and coil, magnetic steel suit on the gear ring rotating body, magnetic steel and gear ring rotating body match; The coil is connected to the plug by a signal cable.
The gear ring rotating body is spline connected with the flange. The end face of the flange is provided with a hole matching the bolt, which can be directly connected with the suspension, brake device and tire. The inner hole of the flange is provided with a splined keyway, which can be used with the constant speed drive shaft. The utility model has the advantages that the structure replaces the original combination of automobile.
